UNITED NATIONS: Of the more than two million people uprooted by the anti-Taliban offensive in the northwest, around 765,000 have now returned home, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Tuesday. However, it said the ongoing military operation is causing a fresh round of displacement for the region. Around 1.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) are still living with host communities, while over 160,000 are sheltering in 21 camps, according to the OCHA. Nine camps have closed down following the IDPs repatriation, it added. But ongoing military operations in Upper Dir have forced others into camps. With schools in Lower Dir having reopened, IDPs must seek shelter elsewhere. app
